@Mafi in normal circumstances I'd agree. Reminds me a bit of calling disabled people brave or inspirational, but in this instance the guy was genuinely being insulting and didn't get it. He clarified and basically said he didn't think I had it in me, which is charming

@sophia @Mafi In that particular scenario the guy was just being shitty. I think the only time I've ever used that phrase, it was more of a "Holy shit, I had no idea X was a hobby of yours", rather than an implicit "lol I'm surprised you are good at anything".

@jishh_ @Mafi That's the kind of thing I go with too. Dunking on someone for being good at something is just petty as hell, does make me wonder how many who use that phrasing mean it tho, esp having had it before
